Fashion Month Style Round-Up

Fashion Month has drawn to a close. From the sleek, low-key sophistication of New York and the bold eclecticism in London, to the indulgent glamour in Milan and the fashion-forward luxury in Paris, we witnessed an abundance of brand new styles to influence our wardrobes next season.

Check Out

Tailoring was a key trend that permeated all four fashion cities and there was a common print that tied it all together. Somewhere between Prince Charles heritage and 80s business wear, AW17 is all about the grey check. From the quiet minimalism of Calvin Klein and the sporty undercurrents of Alexander Wang to the fluid layering at Victoria Beckham, this is the new way to wear tailoring.

Meet in the Middle

Midi lengths dominated the AW17 runways. Fluid lines and asymmetrical hems were the rule of thumb and there was a new accompaniment to the mid-calf hemline – knee length boots. This fresh styling trick was deployed far and wide, offering a wintry spin on a classically transitional staple. We spied the look at Michael Kors, Roksanda, Victoria Beckham, Fendi and Missoni to name just a few.

Double Denim

Once a fashion faux pas and now a certified trend, double denim lent a laid back feel to even the most luxurious line-ups. Calvin Klein, under the new directorship of Raf Simons, opted for dark indigo with a definite Americana feel, while Dior provided military influences with functional silhouettes, patch pockets and epaulettes. Over at Adam Selman, a biker girl attitude, ’70s disco glam and spaghetti western details met within his embroidered co-ords.

Dark Florals

Step aside pastel petals – winter florals are here. They’re dark, decadent and come with a distinctly moody disposition. At Erdem, florals were embroidered onto lace, printed onto silk and fused with painterly prints, while at Preen, bright blooms danced upon black backgrounds, frills and cosy quilting. Mary Katrantzou’s florals were rich and tonal, and decadence echoed within Anna Sui’s velvet blooms.
