Fashion Week Style with This is Mothership

From the catwalk to the street: fashion bloggers Gemma and Sam from This is Mothership show us how to wear the key styles they spotted at London Fashion Week.

Neutral Palettes

Amongst the dark, wintery hues that are synonymous with colder months, pared-back palettes also made an appearance on the AW17 runways. From the romantic pinks at Temperley to the neutral accents at Peter Pilotto, barely-there nudes are big news for next season – and the good news is that they can be easily translated into your everyday wardrobe.

Dandie Double Faced Sweater, £49 | Flora Tulle Maxi Skirt, £79 | Lacey Victoriana Lace Frill Blouse, £59 | Jolie Pussy Bow Blouse, £45 | Brittany Bardot Jumper, £49 | Nadine High Rise Jean, £45 | Alanis Slip On Trainer, £39

Making the case for the neutral palettes, Gemma paired a simple grey sweat with a tulle maxi skirt in the softest ballet pink for dressy-casual chic that feels wholly relevant for spring. For everyday polish, Sam’s blush-toned lace blouse and white jeans ticked all the right boxes, creating a modern and innately feminine look for those warmer days to come.

Embroidered Details

Embroidery continues to reign supreme for the months ahead, its staying power cemented by the needlework florals that appeared across the latest Temperley and Mulberry collections. Luckily, we don’t have to wait until AW17 to incorporate the look into our personal rotation, thanks to its undeniable presence on the current style radar.

Selma Lace Top, £49 | Teela Pin Up Jean, £49 | Blair Denim Shirt, £45 | Skye Embroidered Jean, £59 | Lakeesha Blouse, £49 |Esmeralda Embroidered Bomber Jacket, £69Gitta Embroidered Denim Skirt, £49 | Sandra Embroidered Trainer, £49

Gemma opted for a subtle take on the style of the moment, tucking a crisp white blouse with tonal embroidery into relaxed boyfriend jeans. The easy-breezy mood was echoed by Sam, who followed suit with a faded denim shirt and dark-wash denim embroidered with flowers – we love how both opted for clashing accessories to lift each look.

Clashing Prints

Prints emerged in fresh new iterations at London Fashion Week, with highlights including the eclectic blooms at Mary Katranzou and Preen, and the bohemian-inspired motifs Sharon Whachoub. Clashing prints also demanded attention on the catwalks, with mismatched countryside florals and contrasting checks leading the way at Mulberry.

Katharina Bomber Jacket, £69 | Atlanta Slim Fit Boyfriend Jean, £49 | Melanie Leopard Trainers, £49 | Sunni Print Tunic Dress, £59 | Bernice Stripe Top, £29 Jane Printed Bomber Jacket, £69 | Poppy Print Trousers, £45 | Summer Stripe Wrap Dress, £59

Proving that there’s subtle ways to weave clashing prints the everyday style agenda, Sam clashed a patterned bomber with all-over leopard trainers. She spliced the prints with classic blue jeans which not only pulled the outfit together, but also made it feel instantly wearable. Meanwhile, Gemma chose a more statement-making look, styling a printed bohemian dress with faux snakeskin boots in an over-the-knee silhouette that’s perfectly in line with spring’s relaxed, carefree mood.
