Spotlight on One Hundred Stars: The family run brand that’s gained cult status

Born in 2015 out of a love for beautiful textiles and timeless silhouettes – which still shape their direction to this day – there’s no surprise that One Hundred Stars has gained cult-status among the fashion set. A favourite of influencers and fashion editors alike, it’s the go-to place for truly unique pieces that never date. A holy grail for fashion with distinctive style; those in the know, know. And the secret is too good to keep…

Our fashion writer caught up with Anna Hogan, the curator of Monsoon’s brands Bazaar to learn more about One Hundred Stars and unpick exactly what makes them one of our bestselling brands.

When I stumbled across One Hundred Stars on our brands Bazaar, I felt like I’d uncovered a hidden gem. How did you discover them?

I met the team at a fashion fair and was obsessed with their prints. I couldn’t take my eyes away from their dresses and was struck by how lovely the owners were, too. Sometime later, I was going through my mum’s wardrobe and found a One Hundred Stars kimono and scarf hanging up in there! I loved that connection; it reminded me of what a small world it can be and how their pieces appeal to everyone.

Monsoon’s brands Bazaar bursts with independent brands with beautiful back stories. What drew you to One Hundred Stars’ story specifically?

The founders, for sure. It’s run by a mother-and-daughter duo in Sheffield who are so inspiring. Over the years, they’ve grown their brand by staying true to their roots. They produce two collections a year. I admire that they’re not fashion led – but instead take inspiration from classical and historical designs to produce stunning and timeless pieces. In fact, they still produce some products that featured in their first-ever collection. How cool is that?

Their fanbase is full of real textile lovers. What do you think draws that crowd in?

One Hundred Stars has synergy with us – they champion quality fabrics and value their long-standing partners in India.

Their pieces are made really well from premium fibres (like Bemberg™ Cupro, LENZING™ Modal, Fsc certified viscose, organic cotton), which feel lighter-than-air to wear and stand the test of time. In a world of mass consumerism, quality textiles reign supreme.

What makes One Hundred Stars’ print designs so unique?

Every design in their collections has its own personality, just like the people who love to wear them.

We love how ethics are built into the business. Can you tell us more about this?

I love how One Hundred Stars work to make the best ethical choices available at every stage of production. They source and manufacturer in India, using a small family business and supply to a fantastic range of independent shops, who share their values in more sustainable manufacturing vs mass-production.

What’s your favourite thing about One Hundred Stars?

For me, it’s that everyone looks and feels fantastic in their designs. Their sizes are inclusive; their S/M is cut for anyone from 6-14 and M/L for 16-22s. Their silhouettes are fluid and elegant – no matter your mood, you can throw on one of their dresses, kimonos or tops and feel your absolute best.
