Turquoise Mountain's mission is to support artisans where they and their heritage are under threat - and the Monsoon Accessorize Trust have supported this with a series of grants and collaborations for artisan jewellers and weavers, as well as their families and communities, in Afghanistan and Myanmar. Project highlights have included launching a silversmithing workshop and apprenticeship programme in Myanmar, and more recently a programme in the Bamiyan Valley in Afghanistan's central highlands. In addition to supporting two community centres for hundreds of talented Afghan carpetweavers and their families, the Monsoon Accessorize Trust also launched an emergency appeal during the challenging winter of 2021 to provide food and heating supplies to weaver families in urgent need. With a shared focus on craft, heritage, and community, this collaboration and partnership between Turquoise Mountain and focus on craft, heritage, and community, this collaboration and partnership between Turquoise Mountain and Monsoon has had a huge impact for hundreds of talented young people and families across Afghanistan and Myanmar - and a next three-year phase of partnership in Afghanistan has just entered its second year and is creating opportunities for many more.

"The generous funding from Monsoon enables us to support the families of 250 weavers in Bamiyan. Thanks to our partnership, we are able to provide essential services so that these women are better able to support themselves and their family's needs, while maintaining a long and important tradition and continuing to share the beauty of Afghan culture with the world."

Shoshana Stewart, President of Turquoise Mountain

With the incredible support from the Monsoon Accessorize Trust, totalling over £295,000 in funding in recent years, we have sustained our community support in the Bamiyan Valley, maintaining two weaving centres supporting about 250 carpet weavers (85 male, 164 female) and their families, over 230 children (107 male, 126 female) every year. This support for weavers and their families is invaluable, especially for the women, who continue to be the sole breadwinners of their families.
